Iran requests emergency meeting of UN Security Council

The strikes carried out by the United States against Iran represent a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter, said Iran's permanent representative to the world organization, Amir Saeed Iravani, Report informs.
"Undoubtedly, the US military aggression against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran represents a gross violation of international law and binding international norms enshrined in the UN Charter," Iravani's letter to the UN Security Council Chairman and the Secretary-General of the world organization states.
"In light of the serious and far-reaching consequences of these barbaric and criminal actions for international peace and security, the Islamic Republic of Iran urgently requests the Security Council to convene an emergency meeting to discuss this flagrant and illegal act of aggression without delay," the letter also states.
In addition, the head of the Iranian mission indicated that a UN Security Council meeting is necessary "to condemn the mentioned actions in the strongest terms and take all necessary measures in accordance with obligations under the UN Charter to ensure that the perpetrator of such flagrant crimes is held accountable and does not remain unpunished."
