Iran hopes to restore diplomatic relations with Egypt

Tehran and Cairo, which have not had diplomatic relations for more than 40 years, have increased their interaction with each other over the past year, and there is hope that the countries will be able to reopen their embassies in the near future, according to Mehdi Sanaei, Deputy Head of the Iranian President's Administration for Political Affairs and former Iranian Ambassador to Russia.

"Iran and Egypt have not had political relations for more than 40 years, but interaction between the countries has increased in the past year. I think that the groundwork is being laid for the restoration of diplomatic relations. We hope that in the near future... we will reach the level of reopening embassies of both countries," he said, Report informs via Mehr.

Sanaei's statement came during the official visit of Iran's President and Foreign Minister Masoud Pezeshkian and Abbas Araghchi to Egypt to participate in the meeting of the Islamic Eight.
