IAEA eyes allocating 2.5M euros to Uzbekistan

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) intends to allocate 2.5 million euros to increase the human resources capacity of cancer centers in Uzbekistan. The corresponding project is planned to be implemented in the next three years, according to the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Republic, Report informs referring to Uzbek media.

This proposal was made during meetings between Uzbek Deputy Minister of Health Farrukh Sharipov and Agency officials in Vienna on the sidelines of the IAEA General Conference.

In addition, the parties agreed to continue work on modernizing radiation therapy facilities at the Tashkent Oncological Dispensary.

The delegation of Uzbekistan also discussed issues of technical cooperation with the countries of Central Asia. They discussed compliance with IAEA standards in the field of radiation protection and safety in medicine, as well as the Agency’s support for quality assurance activities in the field of diagnostic radiology and medical physics in the region.
