Human, organ trafficking on rise in Kazakhstan

In the years 2023 to 2025, Kazakhstan recorded an increase in the number of criminal cases related to human and organ trafficking, Adlet Tokhtamysov, a representative of the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan, told Report.
"In 2023, 158 such criminal cases were recorded. In 2024, this figure was 207, and during the first 8 months of the current year, it was more than 140," Tokhtamysov noted on the sidelines of a forum dedicated to combating human trafficking.
According to him, Kazakhstan has already made amendments to legislation that toughen punishment for such crimes: "Human trafficking, including illegal trade of human organs, carries a punishment of up to 18 years of imprisonment."
