The transition to the Euro 5 fuel standard in Georgia has been postponed until 2021.
Georgian bureau of Report informs that the relevant decision was made by the government.
The transition to the new standard was expected to take place on January 1, 2020.
Azerbaijan accounts for 40% of diesel fuel imported by Georgia.
The adoption of the Euro 5 standard in 2020 was not welcomed in the neighboring country. According to experts, after the transition to the new standard, Azerbaijan would not be able to provide Georgia with fuel, while Russia would become the main fuel supplier for the country.
Production of Euro 5 fuel in Azerbaijan will begin in 2021.
