Foundation laid for railway line connecting Azerbaijan with Türkiye

The foundation ceremony for the Kars-Igdir-Aralik-Dilucu railway line, part of the Zangazur corridor, is currently underway in Igdir, Report informs via TRT Haber.

Türkiye has secured €2.4 billion in external financing for the project’s implementation.

The new 224-km railway line will be double-tracked, electrified, and equipped with modern signaling systems. Its capacity is expected to reach 5.5 million passengers and 15 million tons of cargo annually.

The project includes the construction of 24 tunnels, 10 bridges, 144 underground and 27 overground crossings, and 480 culverts.

Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, recently stated that the new railway branch will significantly strengthen freight and passenger transportation in the country’s east. He emphasized that the railway will not only expand Türkiye’s logistics potential but also enhance its geostrategic importance.
