Erdogan calls for urgent lifting of all political barriers on Türkiye's path to EU membership

The political barriers on Türkiye's path to EU membership must be lifted urgently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told journalists on return flight from Northern Cyprus, Report informs.

Erdogan added that there should not be even a day's wait to advance discussions regarding Türkiye's EU membership:

"Progress in this regard needs to be achieved right now. We once again inform all our colleagues in the European Union that we maintain our strong commitment to full membership. Once the EU resolves this issue in a strategic and far-sighted manner, there will be no obstacles to its taking urgent measures. The political barriers against Türkiye on this path must be lifted immediately. We expect EU countries to continue relations with a fair approach."

The Turkish president believes that the events unfolding in and around Europe, the disagreements within the EU, show that the Union needs a dynamic and solution-oriented member like Türkiye.

"Breaking free from the influence of outdated political perspectives could be a step for the European Union to understand the new era and lead it into the future. As Türkiye, we are ready for full membership."
