Armenian Parliament adopts EU accession bill

The Parliament of Armenia has adopted in the second and final reading the bill on starting the process of the republic's accession to the EU, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

As many as 64 deputies supported the adoption of the law, and seven deputies opposed it. Only representatives of the ruling Civil Contract faction voted for the adoption of the law, deputies from the opposition faction "I Have Honor" voted against, while representatives of the opposition faction "Armenia" did not participate in the voting.

On January 9, the Armenian government approved a draft law on the republic's accession to the European Union.

As Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated, the decision on Armenia's accession to the EU should be made through a nationwide referendum.

The bill was put forward as part of an initiative by a number of public and political organizations, which collected 60,000 signatures for it.
