Armenian deputy FM says country not yet applied for EU membership

The draft law "On the beginning of the process of accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union" is not an application for EU membership, there is no context of geopolitical changes in it, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan said during a meeting of the parliamentary commission on European integration, Report informs referring to Armenian media.

"Such realities would be possible if we submitted an application for accession. The law is not an application for accession. We don't see the context of geopolitical changes. Such serious changes will occur in the case of other procedures," Hovhannisyan added.

He noted that the law doesn't provide for specific actions, it is rather a political message that meets the authorities' desire to strengthen relations with the EU.
