Workers at Argentina's largest shale mine go on indefinite strike

Argentina's largest oil and gas union went on strike on Sunday to demand safe working conditions, Report informs with reference to the union's Twitter page.

"Patience is over, action begins. The governing commission of the Syndicate of the private oil and gas sector of the provinces of Rio Negro, Neuquen and La Pampa launched a strike with a complete suspension of work in the Neuquen basin," the union noted.

The strike will affect, among other things, the Vaca Muerta shale hydrocarbon deposit, the largest in Argentina, located in Neuquen. There is currently no end date for the strike. The protesters demand that measures be taken to ensure labor safety, as well as the presence of the Labor Ministry representatives in the region.

"We are tired of tragic incidents that take the lives or leave workers disabled in the absence of a response from companies and the government of the country," the union said.
