Venezuelan Attorney General: Opposition used USAID funds to prepare coup attempt

The right-wing opposition used financial resources from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to prepare a coup attempt against the Venezuelan government, Tarek William Saab, Attorney General of Venezuela, said in an interview with Cable a Tierra radio, Report informs.

"Venezuelan right-wing extremists who received money from USAID are under investigation for using those funds to prepare a conspiracy against the legitimate government," Saab emphasized.

The attorney general highlighted that investigations are currently underway into corruption schemes that permitted the so-called interim government, led by self-proclaimed president Juan Guaido, to illegally use USAID funds.

Saab also mentioned that in 2023, a request was made to Interpol for the arrest and extradition of Juan Guaido and his associates to face charges in Venezuelan justice. These charges include asset theft, usurpation of power, conspiracy, aiding terrorist acts, and treason against the state.
