The US Armed Forces will deploy several thousand unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and amphibious vehicles equipped with artificial intelligence by August 2025, Kathleen Hicks, US Deputy Secretary of Defense, said in an interview with the Japanese Sankei Shimbun Newspaper, Report informs.

“These are cost-effective systems that reduce human exposure to the dangers of war. Artificial intelligence will enable these drones to operate autonomously even in poor communication conditions,” she stated.

Hicks emphasized that this initiative is a strategic measure against China: “In this era of strategic competition with China, we should innovate the technological approaches.”

The deputy secretary also mentioned that the using of unmanned systems is just the first phase, with a second wave of military deployment featuring artificial intelligence to follow.
