US expands sanctions lists targeting Iran and Houthis

The United States has expanded its sanctions lists targeting Iran and Yemen’s Houthi rebels from the Ansar Allah movement, the US Treasury Department said in a statement.

Report informs via TASS that the expansion of sanctions on Iran is linked to deliveries of "sensitive equipment" from China. The restrictions now apply to some of the China-based companies. They now embrace one individual and eight companies—including one from Türkiye—and a Panama-flagged cargo ship. The US Treasury did not specify the exact cargo allegedly shipped from China to Iran.

Additionally, the Treasury imposed sanctions aimed at dismantling smuggling networks operated by the Houthis. Measures target four individuals and twelve entities, including a company with offices in Chișinău and the Seychelles, as well as two tankers. According to the US government, these sanctions have disrupted the activities of multiple front companies controlled by the Houthis and hindered their schemes to sell "oil and other commodities on Yemen's black market" and other smuggling operations.
