Qatar clarifies US Embassy's shelter-in-place advice as routine precaution

The US Embassy's recommendations to take precautions or avoid certain places in Qatar "do not necessarily indicate the presence of specific threats," Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a post on social media, according to Report.

"The advisory to exercise caution or avoid certain locations in Qatar, issued by several embassies to their citizens, is part of a general policy followed by many countries regarding travel recommendations and updating security information for their nationals in various countries around the world, and does not necessarily indicate the existence of specific threats,” the statement said.

The US Embassy in Qatar has instructed its citizens in the country not to leave their place of residence until further notice, Report informs referring to The Times of Israel.

The embassy sent an email to US citizens in Qatar.

The recommendation was given for precautionary reasons.
