UN: Over 5 million Ukrainians received asylum in Europe since war onset

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 5,008,482 Ukrainians have received the status of temporary protection in European countries, RBC-Ukraine said, citing the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Report informs.

According to the UNHCR, from January 31 through March 28, the number of Ukrainian citizens who received official protection status in European countries increased by 185,000 people. Most Ukrainians with temporary protection status live in Poland - more than 1.57 million people. Poland is followed by Germany (922,000) and the Czech Republic (502,000).

More than 191,000 Ukrainian refugees live in the UK. Italy and Spain granted asylum to more than 173,000 and 171,000 Ukrainians, respectively. More than 123,000 Ukrainians have settled in neighboring Romania.

France, Finland and Denmark have received 119,000, 50,000 and 38,000 Ukrainian refugees, respectively.

Since February 24, 2022, more than 8 million Ukrainian refugees have fled to Europe. Some of them have already returned home or left for other countries.
