Ukraine unlikely to be invited to join NATO under Biden, US security official says

There is no chance that Ukraine will be invited to join NATO under current US President Joe Biden and the issue will have to be handled by the next president’s team, US National Security Council Senior Director for Europe Michael Carpenter said, Report informs via TASS.

"I think it's at this point going to be up to the new team to decide how to leverage Ukraine's eventual NATO membership in the course of the next few months, as they contemplate a negotiation possibly happening in 2025," he noted.

"Right now, we don't have 32 allies that are agreed where there's consensus within the alliance to offer the invitation," Carpenter went on to say.

He also stressed that Ukraine’s accession to NATO would require a cessation of hostilities and a show of political will by the bloc’s members.
