Task force to be created in Japan to restore regions after earthquake

Japan will create a task force to support the recovery of regions affected by the devastating earthquake on the Noto Peninsula on January 1, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in the lower house of parliament, Report informs.

“We will be responsible for the return of people affected by the disaster and the restoration of the affected regions, including the Noto Peninsula. We will create a task force to facilitate the recovery of the Noto Peninsula after the 2024 earthquake, and I will lead it,” he said.

Authorities recently decided to double the size of the reserve fund in the proposed budget for the next fiscal year, which begins April 1, to 1 trillion yen (about $6.7 billion), Kishida said.

As a result of a series of powerful earthquakes in the area of the Noto Peninsula on the coast of the Sea of Japan, 236 people died.
