Spanish police have exposed a human trafficking network that smuggled women from China to Spain for sexual exploitation.
Report informs via western media that the operation, which began in 2022, resulted in the arrest of 30 individuals and the liberation of 33 victims, including one minor.
The police revealed that the well-organized international criminal network, known as the "Triad Tian Xia She," subjected the victims, all of Asian origin, to near-slavery conditions. The women were forced into prostitution in Spain to pay off debts to their exploiters, which amounted to as much as €20,000 ($21,700).
The network also reaped substantial profits by smuggling illegal migrants from China who wished to enter the United States, charging exorbitant fees for their services.
The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) participated in the operation, which involved police raids in 14 locations across Spain and one in Croatia. During the raids, two brothels and a document forgery business were shut down.
