The Spanish government will increase the number of military personnel by 20,000 over the next decade to reach a level of 140,000, Report informs via the El Pais newspaper.
This is the maximum limit established by the law "On Military Career".
"The Spanish Armed Forces will increase their numbers for the first time in more than 10 years. The government is finalizing a royal decree on the number of generals, officers and non-commissioned officers, as well as a ministerial order on soldiers and sailors, which will lead to a net increase in military personnel by 7,500 during 2025-2029," writes the newspaper.
This step is driven by the need to expand the army's capabilities to fulfill increased tasks, including international missions, cyberspace operations, protection of space objects, and civil defense in cases of fires, earthquakes, or floods.
