Slovak gov't approves establishment of tourism and sport ministry

The Slovak government at its session on Wednesday approved the setting up of a tourism and sport ministry, which is set to come into existence on January 1, 2024, Report informs via the Press Agency of the Slovak Republic.

At the same time, the Slovak cabinet agreed that Parliament should discuss the bill via fast-track proceedings.

"The aim of establishing a tourism and sport ministry is to bolster and streamline the use of public resources and potential in the tourism sector and to significantly support the recognition of the brand Slovakia as a safe tourist destination and to create space in foreign markets for the smooth growth of income of this important sector of the domestic economy," reads the approved materials.

Another task of the emerging ministry will be to support and develop spa and cycling tourism. "The promotion of tourism is closely related to developing Slovak regions, which will help to balance out regional disparities within Slovakia by maintaining existing jobs and creating new ones, thus increasing the competitiveness of Slovakia and its individual regions," stated the cabinet. The new ministry is also expected to promote congress tourism as another important source of revenue for the state and towns and cities.
