Romanian Constitutional Court formally validates Nicusor Dan's win in presidential election

Romania’s Constitutional Court on Thursday unanimously rejected the appeal filed by far-right leader George Simion challenging the results of the country's presidential election, Report informs via Euractiv.

The court also formally validated the outcome of last Sunday's election, won by Bucharest mayor Nicusor Dan. The decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Following the validation of his mandate, President-elect Dan expressed gratitude to the Romanian people, commending the high voter turnout in Sunday's second round, which he said gave "legitimacy to the new president."

"We are opening a new chapter in Romania’s recent history," Dan declared. "I want to assure all Romanian citizens that I fully understand the responsibilities entrusted to me."
