Vatican prepares farewell as Pope’s body may go on display Wednesday

The body of Pope Francis may be displayed for farewell at St. Peter's Basilica on Wednesday morning, the head of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, said, Report informs via foreign media.

"The transfer of the Holy Father's body to the Vatican Basilica for veneration by the faithful may take place on Wednesday morning, April 23, 2025, in accordance with the conditions that will be established and announced tomorrow after the first Congregation of Cardinals," he noted.

Pope Francis, the first pontiff from the New World, has passed away at the age of 88, as confirmed by the Vatican.

Report informs via Reuters that born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, he made history when he was elected as the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church in 2013, succeeding Pope Benedict XVI.

His last public appearance was just a day before his passing when he delivered his Easter message to the faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square.
