Over 317,000 Canadians sign petition to strip Musk of citizenship

The number of Canadian residents who have signed a petition demanding that US entrepreneur Elon Musk be stripped of his Canadian citizenship has already exceeded 317,600 people, Report informs referring to foreign media.

The petition was published on the website of the House of Commons of Canada.

Residents of the country are demanding that Musk be stripped of his Canadian citizenship, claiming that the American entrepreneur, who received Canadian citizenship in 1989, acted to the detriment of its interests, interfered in elections and became a member of a foreign government that 'seeks to undermine' Canadian sovereignty.

On February 26, the CBC TV channel, citing the former chair of the immigration section of the Canadian Bar Association, Gabriela Ramo, noted that the Canadian authorities will not be able to strip Musk of his Canadian citizenship, since this would require amendments to the legislation. Ramo noted that cases of deprivation of citizenship in Canada are 'pretty rare,' while the CBC, in turn, added that the petition to deprive Musk of citizenship could become the most popular in the history of the Canadian House of Commons.
