The summit of heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has opened in New Delhi. It will take place online.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO, Report informs referring to foreign media.
Iran is expected to be admitted to the SCO following the virtual meeting. During the summit, the member states of the organization will also formalize a memorandum of intent for Belarus to join the organization.
Iran signed a memorandum of commitment to obtain the status of a member state of the association at the previous SCO summit in Samarkand in September 2022. Belarus is an observer in the SCO. In July last year, the country applied for the status of a full member of the organization.
