Novruz holiday has been celebrated at the UN Headquarters in New York.
According to Report’s US bureau, the ceremony was organized by the permanent representation of 12 countries (Türkiye, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan) celebrating Novruz at the UN.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in his speech that Novruz is a celebration of new beginnings, the beginning of a new year, spring and the renewal of nature. He stressed that Novruz unites more than 300 million people in the world and symbolizes the community of different nations and cultures. According to the secretary-general, the values of this holiday are in tune with the peace principles of the organization, including human rights and dignity.
The head of the UN urged to be guided by the “spirit of Novruz solidarity” and strengthen harmony in protecting the planet and realizing common goals, despite the unprecedented challenges of our time. He wished everyone happiness, health, peace and prosperity.
In turn, Leyla Novruz, advisor to the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the UN, provided detailed information on the significant role of Novruz in the life of the Azerbaijani people, which is a truly national holiday, the most beloved and revered by all compatriots.
