The new head of the political bureau of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, wants to conclude a ceasefire agreement with Israel to end the war in the Gaza Strip, according to the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, Report informs referring to TASS.
Mediators from Egypt and Qatar informed Israel about this.
Ankara believes that reaching an agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza is possible for several reasons. The Americans insist on a ceasefire, the text that will be put on the negotiating table is based on an American-Israeli compromise.
According to the newspaper, "Hamas is demonstrating a constructive position in the negotiation process."
The question that worries the participants in the negotiations is how quickly it will move forward with the new leader of the political wing of Hamas.
"We should not forget about Ankara's efforts to ensure that Hamas becomes a participant in the negotiating process and that a decision is not made without it. Therefore, it is important that Sinwar, who comes from the military wing [of Hamas], does not upset the established balance," the publication writes.
