NATO's Stoltenberg on Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has called for caution in assessing the results of talks between the Russia-Ukraine delegations in Istanbul, Report informs, citing RIA Novosti.

Following the results of the talks in Istanbul held the day before, the Russian side announced that it was significantly reducing military activity in the Kyiv and Chernihiv directions and proposed to hold a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky simultaneously with the initialing of the peace treaty by the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Ukraine.

Commenting on the issue of Russia's desire to concentrate its efforts on Donbas, in an interview with the France's Le Monde, Stoltenberg urged to be cautious in assessing some of the positions taken.

He believes that the Russian Federation underestimated the possibilities of Ukrainian resistance, while overestimating its own forces. This explains the fact that Russia was obliged to revise its plans, the NATO chief said.
