Naryshkin: Russia did not let UK and Prussia to dismember France in 1814

Russia preserved France as “a great power” in 1814, preventing Great Britain and Prussia from dismembering the country after the war and thereby upsetting the balance of power in Europe, the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Historical Society Sergei Naryshkin said, Report informs.

“Opposing its allies, primarily Great Britain and Prussia, who insisted on dismembering France into several parts, Russia did not let the defeated France to be humiliated, which could upset the balance of power. Thus, Russia preserved France as a great European power,” he noted.

The capture of Paris in 1814 was the final stage of the war of the Sixth Coalition (Russia, Prussia, the UK, Austria, Spain, Sardinia, Portugal, and Sweden) against France, after which Napoleon abdicated the throne.
