Merz holds phone conversation with Netanyahu, discusses escalation between Israel, Iran

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Report informs referring to Israeli media.
During the conversation, the two officials discussed the situation in the Middle East, including the escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran. Merz also supported the Israeli strike on Iranian targets, declaring "Israel's right to defend its existence and the security of its citizens."
The Chancellor also convened a security council, where he announced Germany's intention to strengthen the protection of Israeli facilities in Germany.
Merz called on both sides to refrain from further escalation, and recalled Germany's long-standing concerns about Iran's nuclear weapons program.
