Media: Macron continues his international visits amid crisis unfolding in France

French President Emmanuel Macron is quietly continuing his planned schedule of international visits, leaving the country's newly appointed youngest Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, at the forefront of the country's crisis, Report informs via French media.

Macron began a two-day visit to India on January 25, after which he is due to head to Sweden. During his stay in India, he refused to comment on the situation in France, where farmers, dissatisfied with government policies, are blocking highways, setting up blockades and damaging infrastructure.

The publication Le Monde, citing sources close to the president, suggested that amid protests in his homeland, Macron will shorten his stay in India. However, this did not happen.

The Figaro newspaper writes that the prime minister is trying to maneuver by “showing signs of attention” to French farmers while the president is abroad.

“A huge gap at the top of the government. For Gabriel Attal - tractor barricades and the lion's den of the National Assembly (lower house of parliament), and for Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron - toasts in the company of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia,” the Libération newspaper describes the situation.

Farmer protests have been gaining momentum in France in recent weeks. They block key highways, traffic with tractors, haystacks and piles of manure. Farmers also litter prefectures and government buildings with manure and waste. They demand recognition of the importance of their activities and condemn government policies in the agricultural sector, which, in their opinion, make them uncompetitive.
