Mayor of commune in France was attacked with knife

Gilles Dussault, the mayor of the French commune of Villeneuve-de-Marc in the Isère department, was hospitalized in critical condition after being attacked by an attacker armed with a knife, according to the Le Parisien newspaper, Report informs via Izvestia.

On August 6, 63-year-old Dussault and his 28-year-old son were walking through the streets of their village with a population of less than 1,200 people, located between Grenoble and Lyon. At about 17:00 local time (GMT+3), an unknown assailant attacked the official.

According to investigators, an unknown assailant "attacked the mayor with a bladed weapon," striking him "three times in the chest." The attacker fled the scene, and then returned by car, trying to "run over the mayor and his son."

It was stated that both of them managed to dodge, and the car eventually crashed into a wall. Then the alleged attacker hit the deputy's son, after which he fled on foot.

French President Emmanuel Macron commented on the attack, saying that everything possible is being done to "find and condemn the perpetrator of this cowardly act."

On June 8, Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay was attacked in the west of the Colombian capital Bogota. It was noted that the victim is in critical condition. The mayor of the city, Carlos Fernando Galan, said that the shooter had been detained. According to the newspaper El Tiempo, the shooter in Uribe allegedly turned out to be a 15-year-old teenager.
