The EU foreign ministers have stated the need to prevent an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and called on all parties to retreat and return to the negotiating table, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated at a press conference following the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Report informs

"A new war in the Middle East is a dangerous development, and recent military actions are raising tensions. All EU foreign ministers have stated the need to prevent further escalation and called on the parties to return to the negotiating table. A protracted war is not beneficial to anyone and is dangerous," Kallas said.

Iran has been a threat for decades, she said, and the EU has always said Tehran must not be allowed to develop or acquire nuclear weapons because it would threaten international security.

"But military action always involves risks and uncertainties. What is important now is to minimize the risk of further escalation," she said.
