Jimea Mohammedraki: Eritrean women to fight for their rights and freedom until goals achieved

Eritrean women intend to continue fighting for their rights and freedom until they achieve all their goals, a member of the executive board of the National Union of Eritrean Women, Jimea Mahmoud Mohammedraki, said at the international conference on empowering women in Baku, Report informs.

She noted that the Eritrean government plans to implement special socio-economic programs that will be aimed at ensuring gender equality in the country.

“Eritrean legislation provides for serious punishment for crimes related to violence against women and restrictions on their freedom. For example, early marriage, the abduction of women for the purpose of marriage, and the tradition of paying a ransom for the right to marry are prohibited at the legislative level,” she said.
