Iraq asks Iran not to strike US targets on its territory

Iraq has requested Iran to refrain from carrying out attacks on American facilities located within Iraqi territory, Report informs via The Times of Israel.

The United States has deployed about 2,500 troops to Iraq as part of an anti-terrorism coalition.

"Fearing being drawn into a regional escalation, the Iraqi government asked Tehran not to conduct strikes on its territory," the senior Iraqi security source told AFP.

The source also noted that Tehran has shown understanding toward Baghdad's request.
