Hungary to keep transit routes open for Ukrainian agricultural products

Hungary will keep open transit routes through its territory for the transportation of Ukrainian grain, as it believes that this is important for food security around the world, Hungarian Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Szijjarto said, Report informs.

"We regret that this agreement (Black Sea Grain Initiative) will not be extended now, because its importance is obvious," the minister said in an interview with M1 TV.

According to him, Hungary and other countries of Central Europe were extremely interested in the continuation of the grain deal, since they themselves suffered from the influx of cheap Ukrainian grain, which was unable to reach its traditional destinations due to disruption of transport routes.

In this regard, Szijjarto assured that Hungary "will keep open transit routes for the transportation of Ukrainian agricultural products through its territory," although he still advocates a ban on their sale on the Hungarian market. According to him, in Hungary, these products will be grown by Hungarian farmers in accordance with the rules of the European Union, and Ukrainian grain "should be delivered to those for whom it is intended, and where it is really needed."
