Hackers breach US federal court system

Unidentified hackers have carried out a cyberattack on the US federal judiciary’s electronic case filing system, stealing sensitive data related to criminal proceedings and individuals involved in them, Report informs via Politico, which cites sources within the US judicial system.

Among the compromised information may be the personal data of witnesses and informants enrolled in protection programs, which are designed to ensure their anonymity and safety. The US Department of Justice, in coordination with federal courts, is currently assessing the full scope and consequences of the breach.

The hacked system comprises two key components: one is a case management platform used by legal parties to upload digitized documents related to court proceedings; the other is a restricted-access platform that stores sensitive information. Beyond witness and defendant data, the system also contains details about arrest and search warrants.
