Germany supports creation of Europe's Iron Dome system

Jens Spahn, chairman of the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) faction in Germany, supported strengthening Europe's air defenses following the Israeli example and creating a missile defense system similar to the Iron Dome, according to the Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper, Report informs via TASS.

"The German government must now make efforts to do this and erect an Iron Dome over Europe as soon as possible," Spahn said.

The politician cited events in the Middle East and Ukraine as justification. Spahn called for "promoting the Iron Dome project as a European pillar of the transatlantic alliance." In his opinion, Europe must be able to protect itself from approaching missiles, drones and other aircraft, including in space.
