Hessen is considered the latest warship, specifically designed for air defense and sea control. Using radar, the frigate can monitor what is happening over an area of approximately 750,000 square kilometers, which is optimal for protecting merchant ships from missile and drone attacks.
The ship, with 245 soldiers on board, is returning to Germany from six months of exercises in the North Sea and Arctic. The frigate can be sent to the Red Sea at the beginning of 2024.
