German chancellor welcomes ceasefire between Israel and Iran

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has welcomed US President Donald Trump's call for a gradual ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

According to Report, the Chancellor made the corresponding statement on social network X.

“This decision will make the Middle East and the world safer,” Merz emphasized.

He urged both Iran and Israel to heed the call and expressed gratitude to Qatar and other regional states for their restraint during these "dramatic days and hours," referring to the threat of Iranian strikes on US facilities in their territories.

Merz also stated that he would hold talks with American and European partners on the sidelines of today’s NATO summit in The Hague. He added that the parties would discuss ways to further stabilize the situation.
