The French authorities intend to toughen the fight against illegal immigration and will resume work on the relevant law in the fall, French leader Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with Le Point magazine, Report informs referring to TASS.
“Together with Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, we are going to instruct the minister of the interior from autumn to start again developing the government’s plan, discuss it with all opposition forces that are moving in the same direction, and build the most effective plan,” he said.
The head of state added that if the bill would have to be redone by the government to be approved by both houses of parliament, the head of the interior ministry would be able to do this with the full support of the president and prime minister.
In addition, Macron assured that France ‘is not drowning in the flow of migrants,’ but acknowledged that the current situation is unacceptable, and stated the need to ‘seriously reduce immigration, starting with illegal one.’
