A five-story residential building has collapsed in Cairo, with nine people already found dead under the rubble, Report informs citing Interfax.
The building collapsed in the Hadek el Kubba quarter, which is 3.2 kilometers from the city center. Four residents of the house were hospitalized with injuries. People were evacuated from a nearby apartment building as a precaution. Search and rescue work continues.
According to Cairo Deputy Governor Hossam Fozi, the collapse occurred after the tenant of the apartment on the ground floor removed part of the walls during the repair. The tenant was arrested.
The Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity promised approximately $1,940 (60,000 Egyptian pounds) in compensation for the families of the victims.
