The European Union (EU) must obtain the final version of the law on restoring the independence of anti-corruption bodies adopted today by the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, said Guillaume Mercier, European Commission’s Spokesperson for Enlargement, International Partnerships and the Mediterranean, Report informs.
He stated that Ukraine can build its future as an EU member state only on the foundation of the rule of law.
Responding to a question about the possibility of freezing Ukraine's funding, the spokesperson noted that there were no such plans:
"However, Ukraine must continue the good pace of reforms in the judicial and law enforcement system, as well as adopt a law on administrative courts. Progress in all these directions in various areas of the rule of law is truly an important step for us, and Ukraine should strengthen this."
