China, US hold two rounds of talks in Geneva

China’s Vice-Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held two rounds of talks in Geneva on easing tensions amid mutual customs duties, Report informs via DPA.

The agency stated that the talks will continue on Sunday.

The parties have not provided information about the content of the dialogue. In an interview before the start of the talks, Bessent stated that it is not necessary to expect the signing of an agreement in Geneva.

He added that it will be more about reaching an understanding on issues that need to be discussed further, as the convergence of positions serves the interests of both sides.

According to the Chinese side, the talks should be conducted on equal terms, and moreover, Washington should correct its mistakes.

Earlier, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick ruled out the possibility of eliminating duties imposed on the import of Chinese goods and services. He Yadong, an official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, said that the PRC will not compromise on matters of principle and will not abandon justice for the sake of a deal with Donald Trump's administration.
