Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry holds emergency meeting with foreign ambassadors amid tensions with Thailand

Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation convened an emergency meeting with heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Phnom Penh to address the ongoing border tensions with Thailand.

According to Report, citing TASS and the Khmer Times, the meeting aimed to discuss ways to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and seek diplomatic solutions in response to escalating tensions along the two countries’ border.

Participants will review the historical background of the current border dispute, assess recent incidents that have intensified tensions, and emphasize the importance of dialogue to prevent further escalation.

Armed clashes erupted on July 24 along the border, specifically in the Mam Bey area and near the Takrabey, Tamoantauch, and Tamoanthom temples—territories whose ownership Cambodia referred to the International Court of Justice in June 2025 for legal settlement.

So far, reports indicate 14 civilians and one soldier have been killed in Thailand. In Cambodia, one soldier was killed, and several others were injured.
