Berlin prosecutors launch investigation into attempted arson attack on synagogue

The Berlin prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the attempted arson attack on a synagogue that occurred on October 18, Report informs referring to foreign media.

“Due to the current political situation in the Middle East, the pro-Palestinian rallies of the last two weeks, characterized by anti-Semitism and increasing violence against the police, as well as yesterday’s escalating attack on a synagogue, the prosecutor general of Berlin has opened an investigation against as yet unknown individuals in connection with the attempt arson with aggravating circumstances,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

On October 18, the Jewish community Kahal Adass Jisroel reported that unknown assailants threw two Molotov cocktails at their building. No one was injured as a result of the incident. The incident has already been condemned by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Police later clarified that the building they tried to set on fire was a synagogue.
