Air India flight returning to Mumbai after bomb threat

A passenger plane operated by Air India, traveling from Mumbai to New York, returned to its departure airport after receiving a bomb threat on board, Report informs via TASS.
According to Report, citing TASS, this was confirmed by a representative of the Indian airline.
"The aircraft returned to Mumbai for the safety of all passengers on board. The plane landed safely. The aircraft is undergoing a mandatory security check, and Air India is fully cooperating with the authorities," the Indian airline representative stated. The flight to New York has been rescheduled for March 11, with passengers being offered accommodation and meals.
According to NDTV, the bomb threat was later found to be a hoax. Air India has not yet commented on the results of the security services' investigation.
Indian airlines frequently receive bomb threats, many of which turn out to be false. In 2024, over 1,000 such threats were recorded, leading to widespread disruptions to passenger services and changes to flight schedules. Indian authorities are considering increasing penalties for false bomb threat reports.
