About 42,000 liters of oil products spilled near port of Hamburg

At least 42,000 liters of oil products have spilled into the Katwickhaven Canal, near the container port in Hamburg, Report informs via TASS.

The fire service noted that the spill occurred from a tank located on the territory of the Green Port company. The company states that it specializes in "waste management, including collection, transportation, storage and processing, with a particular focus on liquid residues from oil distillation."

How exactly the spill occurred is still unclear. Currently, more than 90,000 cubic meters of water have already been contaminated. Emergency services are trying to prevent further spread of the oil using floating oil booms.

A permanently installed water-air barrier is designed to prevent contaminated water from entering the main channel of the Elbe. A police helicopter equipped with special cameras is also involved in the operation to monitor the situation.
