In the military conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, militants with Armenian roots but possessing the United States, France, and Russia's citizenship are involved.

Diasporas and structures disguised as public organizations play an important role in attracting mercenaries. They attract "volunteers" - foreigners of Armenian origin. However, the parties to the conflict with Russian passports upon return will face criminal liability for participation in an illegal armed formation, the newspaper notes.
The influx of "volunteer" detachments into Karabakh has already attracted the Russian media's attention, which has found out that, in most cases, militants with Armenian roots but having citizenship of the United States, France and Russia are involved in Karabakh.
Members of such formations, with whom Novaya Gazeta and the Air Force spoke, openly say that they have arrived in the combat zone for a war with Azerbaijanis, even if not in Armenian ranks armed forces. VoMA Center public organization openly declares its goal to create "prepared rear" and "reserve army" to fight "enemies of Armenia."
"Our army is our ally, and we are a prepared reserve from Armenia and the Diaspora," the website says.
