For the first time in 200 years, a foundation has been laid for the return of Western Azerbaijanis to their homeland, stated MP Aziz Alakbarli, the head of the Milli Majlis Initiative Group on Return to Western Azerbaijan, Report informs.
Speaking during a hearing on the safe and dignified return to Western Azerbaijan, held in Milli Majlis, Alakbarli revealed that a comprehensive concept encompassing the political and legal basis for the return to Western Azerbaijan has been developed in the aftermath of the Patriotic War.
"We have sent appeals to foreign states, the United Nations, the European Union, UNESCO, and other international organizations to garner global support for our compatriots' right to return," Alakbarli stated. "We have also ensured that key documents, such as the Return Concept of the Western Azerbaijan Community, are disseminated as official documents of the main bodies of the UN."
The MP emphasized that recently, some foreign forces have been exploiting the issue of the return of Armenians who voluntarily left Azerbaijan's Karabakh region as a means of pressure against the country in parliamentary and other formats.
"In our opinion, activities related to the return to Western Azerbaijan are not only a matter of justice but also crucial in preventing such unhealthy attempts," Alakbarli asserted.
