Indonesian official: Upcoming 25 years to be crucial for Asia

The upcoming 25 years will be crucial for realizing the Asian century and creating a peaceful Asia, Indonesian House of Representatives Speaker, Puan Maharani, said at the opening ceremony of the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Baku on February 19 under Azerbaijan's chairmanship, Report informs.

According to the speaker, multipolarity should provide more opportunities for all countries:

"Today we are living in a period of great uncertainty. We are facing a difficult period causing serious disappointments in the system of international relations. Great power competition, wars, and natural disasters are examples of this. Multipolarity should provide more decisive opportunities for all countries. But at the same time, it can also cause instability."

Puan Maharani emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy should contribute to the establishment of just peace:

"We must contribute to ending the wars in Ukraine and other parts of the world, and work to provide humanitarian aid to people in Gaza. Asia should strengthen and overcome the current uncertainty."
